In Memory of a TUN Pioneer
Ron Swift, of St. Lucie West, Florida, lost his courageous battle with lymphoma on August 11 in Boston, Massachusetts, and leaves behind his wife Donna. Ron championed within Teradata the need for closer relationships with universities, which ultimately lead to the creation of Teradata University Network. He was awarded TUN’s Pioneer Award for his many, ongoing contributions.
Ron served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He joined IBM in January 1970 and began a very successful career in the information technology field. After retiring in 1992 from IBM, he joined AT&T, later NCR, and then Teradata.
Ron was a world renowned author, speaker, and consultant for his expertise in the fields of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Data Warehousing, and Business Intelligence.
During the last few years he was an Executive in Residence at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business in Athens, Georgia. He was a natural with coaching and mentoring young professionals and thoroughly enjoyed "The Dawgs". Ron especially enjoyed speaking to the large Introduction to MIS classes and communicated with students long afterwards.
Ron's friends and colleagues will always be grateful for his loyalty and loving commitment to life-long friendships. He will be greatly missed by his friends with the Teradata University Network.
