Ian Tan holds a Ph.D. from Multimedia University, Malaysia. He is attached to the Data Science Institute of the same university and obtained his Master of Science in Parallel Computers and Computation, from University of Warwick, United Kingdom. His undergraduate studies was completed at Imperial College London, United Kingdom where he was awarded a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Systems Engineering and Associate of City and Guilds Institute.

Prior to joining academia, Ian worked in various areas of the Information Technology industry. His career has provided him experiences from microprocessor manufacturing, enterprise server support, data centre implementation, storage management, software development to telecommunications technologies. After leading and managing several engineering teams, he pursued his desire in education and has since served as a faculty member at Multimedia University. His research interests are in data science and in systems; from operating systems process scheduling to network security.

With the demand in data science education, he has been tasked with supervising postgraduate students in data analytics, leading Internet of Things data science projects and preparation of undergraduate as well as postgraduate syllabii for data science curriculums. He has published in several peer reviewed journals, presented in numerous conferences and is active in reviewing articles for publication.
