What is big data analytics?

Big data is the complex process of examining large and varied data sets—or big data—to uncover information including hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, and customer preferences that can help organizations make informed business decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start?
Make a Teradata University Network account and start teaching yourself a software application. We recommend getting your feet wet with Tableau. Start by analyzing public data available on the internet and from there try your own data collection.

How can I get my classmates involved?
Most people don’t know what big data is, so education is key. Have an elevator pitch ready to explain the value of data analytics and provide details about how they can learn more. Inviting potential members to a meeting or two so they can decide for themselves if the club is for them.
We’ve created some templates to help with those efforts.

Do I have to be good at math?
Although data analytics is based in statistics, no math is required. Teradata University Network grants you access to free software that does the math for you. All you need is logical thinking, an interest in solving problems, and a Teradata University Network account.
